Airport Markings and Communications

Airport Communications and Markings is an E-learning curriculum consisting of two modules. Module A covers communications, aircraft marshalling, and ATC light gun signals. Module B covers Airport signs, lighting, and markings.

Airport Communications and Markings is intended to be a prerequisite to undergoing aircraft engine run and taxi training. It can also be used as a standalone course to provide training to persons involved in aircraft ground handling.

Upon Completion of this course the learner will;

  • Be able to use and properly respond to aircraft marshalling hand signals.

  • Understand the difference between a controlled and a non controlled airport.

  • Understand proper radio use skills for ATC communication.

  • Understand the Aviation Phonetic Alphabet Understand how and what to communicate to ATC in the event of an emergency situation.

  • Understand ATC Light Gun signals and their meanings.

  • Be familiar with Airport Runway, Taxiway and Apron/Ramp markings.

  • Be able to interpret airport signs, and know their meanings.

  • Be familiar with various types of airport lighting.

  • Understand the importance of and the procedures for  hold positions at the airport.
